Our History

As part of our 80th Anniversary celebrations, various historical documents are being digitized and transferred to the Chilliwack Archives for safekeeping and research. The Archives already holds some material - a listing can be seen on their Collections website.

The Chilliwack Valley Horticultural Society was formed in 1946. The name was changed to the Chilliwack Garden Club at the Annual Meeting of November 11, 1997. "It had twice come to a vote in previous years. The members of earlier years felt that there was still a place for the wider and broader scope of community influence that been a part of the original concept. The opinion that the words "horticultural society" denoted an air of professionalism that was intimidating to prospective members finally carried the vote." (Bryant, 2001)
